The Visual Arts at BIS is an opportunity for students to express themselves and their ideas in a manner that differs to most of their other subjects. In this sense the programmes try to teach skills and techniques that will allow students space for creativity, exploration and development as an Artist.

Across the year levels, the Art programme aims to present as much variety as possible for continually increasing skills using mediums such as painting, printmaking and sculpture. At the core of each programme is a focus on technical skills as a means of expression and the challenge of conventions and images around 'us.' Students are encouraged to both explore, develop and experiment widely in order to enhance these skills, and also to gain confidence and knowledge about themselves - as a person, a learner and an artist.

Most of all, Visual Art should be a way for students to "see" the world around them and be inspired! We as people, and as Artists are capable of great things and the programmes at BIS support and encourage the theory of German artist Joseph Beuys that: "All people are Artists".
